FAQs for Recreational Program
I’ve registered but I haven’t heard from anyone about my team. When will I know what team my child is on and when the games/practices are scheduled?
- If you’ve received a confirmation email after registration, you are officially registered. Once your child is assigned to a team, the coach will contact you about practice and game schedules. You will generally hear from the coach by phone or email the week before the coaches meeting for existing teams and the week after the coaches meeting for new teams. Kindergarten and Pre-k teams may not be finalized until the week before the first games of the season because we generally do not have final volunteer coaches until then. If you haven’t heard from your coach, contact firstname.lastname@example.org for help or the appropriate division coordinator on our Contact page.
Can my child play in a higher or lower division than their grade in school?
- Players may play in one grade division higher than the child’s grade division. Players are not allowed to play in a lower division than their grade in school, unless they are a year younger than the age range for that grade. Check with the division coordinator of the division you’d like to play in if you’re unsure about moving to a different division.

How do we register? Registration is available online. Visit our Register page to find out more info. You may also register in person at the walk-in dates.
What happened to the age-based divisions (U6,U7,U8 etc.)? Soccer leagues generally refer to divisions by age and list the “Under X” division name as well as a reference. Age-based divisions generally follow grade level because the birthday cut-off date is similar those used by most schools. We show the grade(s) generally corresponding to each Under (“U”) division in the table below.
Division > Grade
U19 > High School
U14 > 8th
U13 > 7th
U12 > 6th
U11 > 5th
U10 > 4th
U9 > 3rd
U8 > 2nd
U7 > 1st
U6 > K
U5 > Pre-K
Age-based divisions work well for keeping teams even, but cause problems when kids can’t play with classmates. Switching to grade level classifications should also eliminate some confusion, which generally causes last minute shuffling of players, and helps simplify the team-building process for our division coordinators.
Does my child need previous soccer knowledge? No. BSC focuses on teaching soccer in a fun and safe environment. We make every effort to make certain teams are balanced with kids of all skill and athletic ability. It’s also part of our requirements that every child receives equal playing time – it’s the best way to learn!
Do I pick a team to join? What if we don’t know other coaches or kids playing? You do not need to pick a team or know a coach. If you like, you may indicate your child’s school or a preferred coach when you register, and we’ll make an effort to place him or her on a team with classmates.
How much does it cost? Registration costs $65 per player in grades 8 and below, and $75 for high school age players. For households registering more than one child, we discount the cost for each child after the first registrant by $5. If you register before the early-bird deadline, you’ll save $10 for each player registered. If you register after the regular-fee deadline, you will be charged a $25 late fee for each player registered.
What do I get for that fee? The registration fee provides each child with a fun, safe and fair soccer experience. As part of that experience, each player receives a uniform that they keep, and they will play in at least seven games. New uniforms are distributed in the Fall season. The same uniform is used in the Spring season. Uniforms for players in the 1st Grade divisions and higher include a jersey, shorts and socks. Uniforms for players in the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten divisions include a reversible jersey and a size-3 soccer ball.
What if I forgot to register my child by the cut-off date? We close registration so coordinators can finalize team rosters and distribute to coaches one week later. If you register after the listed cut-off date you will pay a $15 late fee in addition to the base charge. You will still, however, receive the $5 multi-player discount. We close the registration system two weeks before the season begins. We do not accept registrations after the official closing date unless there are extenuating circumstances.
I registered by child last season. Why I do need to create a new account and re-enter all my information? We changed service providers this season from SportsLogic to BlueSombrero. To transition to the new service, BlueSombrero needs to have registering parents enter new and complete account and player information.
Will the registration process be different with the new service provider? Though some aspects of the BlueSombrero registration interface may differ slightly from past seasons, our overall registration system is similar to what we have previously used.
Is my information safe? YES. All credit card transactions are encrypted and stored on secure servers. BSC does not share, sell or lease your personal information. We may send you communications about your registration and league events.
Where are the games played? For the Fall 2013 season, games will be played at the Blue Ridge Athletic Field located off of 104th Street in KCMO for most divisions while the Swope Soccer Village is under construction. There will be select games for certain divisions being played on Field 3 at Swope, depending on field availability and the Swope Soccer Village construction schedule.
How do I get to the Blue Ridge Athletic Field?
The Blue Ridge Athletic Field is best accessed off of Holmes Road, by turning east on to 104th Street. Take 104th Street east for about a ¼ mile and the entrance to the field complex will be on the south side of 104th Street.
What field will my team play on at the Blue Ridge Athletic Field? There will be a dedicated field for each division similar to how it was laid out at Swope with similarly sized fields as well. We are in the process of finalizing the specific field layout at the Blue Ridge Athletic fields and we will post those when they are available.
What are the dates for the season? Check the schedules page for specific dates. Game times will be posted there once the season begins.
Where are games played? All games are played at Swope Park in KCMO. The fields are shared with the Wizards’ practice facility. Here’s a map to the fields. Find your specific field on by age division on the field layout map.
How do I know if a game is canceled for weather or any other reason? Please check our Facebook page and our homepage after 6:00 am on the day of the game and throughout the day if weather seems to be a concern. In addition, text messages may be sent to families notifying them of cancelations if there is sufficient lead-time. Rescheduling of cancelled games will be determined by the league’s Executive Committee.
When do I get a game schedule? Game schedules will be given to coaches for distribution and posted on this website on the schedules page. Through the BlueSombrero system, you can also sign up for game-time reminders prior to each weekend’s games.
What does my child need to have to play? Shin guards are mandatory for all players in all games and practices. Cleats are optional. We strongly encourage all players to bring plenty of water to all games and practices. In addition, ball size and other age-specific basic data are shown in the table below.
