Brookside Soccer Club Celebrates 35th Anniversary with New Partners and a Bright Future

August 20, 2012

In 1977, a small group of parents and a handful of enthusiastic kids started the Brookside Soccer Club. The club had a simple goal: teach soccer to kids who had no real opportunity to learn and play organized soccer.

For the last 35 years, we have remained true to that goal and our numbers have grown each season. Today, BSC serves more than 2,500 Kansas City youth stretching 82 different zip codes and more than 110 schools – from four-year-olds to High School seniors. Despite our growth, our mission has remained the same: to make soccer fun and accessible to as many kids in the KC metro as possible.

In 2011, the club took major steps to improve our ability to serve our community. The all-volunteer organization took a giant leap by hiring Chris Beier to direct the league. We also reorganized our board to more effectively execute our mission. We entered into a partnership with Sporting KC, which provides many benefits for training kids and coaches.

This season, you’ll begin to see the results of many hours of hard work by Chris and our volunteer army. This includes a major corporate partnership with The Roasterie, new training programs, new uniforms, and even a new logo. But there is still a lot of work to be done. We are hopeful that ongoing discussions with Sporting KC, KC Parks & Recreation, and our city’s elected officials will bring the much-needed improvements to our facilities.
